Group 2: Language Acquisition
The need to be global communicators underpins the requirement that DP students take a second language. “This process encourages the learner to go beyond the confines of the classroom, expanding an awareness of the world and fostering respect for cultural diversity.” (DP Language B guide IBO 2013).
At Wellspring, we offer a choice of Arabic B for those students who have a background in the language, and French and Spanish at the ab initio level. Language B offers students the opportunity to build on their previous knowledge and gain more fluency in the language along with a deeper understanding of the cultural background. The ab initio languages are for those who wish to learn a new language and have had little or no exposure to it. Both the language B and the ab initio languages give an opportunity for students to develop skills important for global communication and inter-cultural understanding.
