Diploma Programme (DP)

Our Diploma Programme (DP) offers a rigorous and enriching educational experience for students aged 16 to 19, preparing them for success in higher education and beyond.

Wellspring believes in empowering students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners. The DP embodies this philosophy by challenging students to engage critically with complex ideas, fostering intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning.

A Comprehensive and Challenging Curriculum

The DP curriculum at Wellspring is renowned for its breadth and depth. Students choose Standard Level (SL) and High Level (HL) courses from six subject groups:

1. LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

2. LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

3. INDIVIDUALS & SOCIETIES

4. SCIENCES

5. MATHEMATICS

6. THE ARTS OR AN ELECTIVE FROM THE OTHER SUBJECT GROUPS

Theory of Knowledge

At the heart of the DP is the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, which encourages students to question the nature of knowledge, explore different ways of knowing, and critically evaluate the validity and reliability of information.

Extended Essay

As part of the DP, students undertake an independent research project known as the Extended Essay (EE) which is self-directed, finishing with a 4,000 word paper.

This mandatory in-depth study allows students to delve into a topic of personal interest, honing their research and writing skills under the guidance of a supervisor.

Creativity, Activity, Service

In addition to academic rigor, the DP at Wellspring emphasizes the importance of holistic development through the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) component.

Students engage in a variety of creative, physical, and service-oriented activities, fostering personal growth and a sense of local and global social responsibility.

Assessment and Examinations

DP assessment at Wellspring is rigorous, comprehensive and sometimes creative (painting mural on school wall). Students undergo internal assessments, including coursework and oral presentations, as well as external examinations administered and graded by the IB.

These required worldwide DP assessments are scheduled and organized by the IB. Students are expected to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and understanding across subject areas.
