Agency and Empowerment: gives voice to become active learners

The CCC Student Council
Mathaf Student Government

The CCC Student Council and Student Government provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility and awareness of how the school is run, as well as to become involved in the school’s overall development. The elected members meet weekly to share ideas, interests and concerns.

The Mathaf campus offers upper elementary students in grades 4 and 5 the chance to participate in a limited form of school government called "Student Representatives" where 2 students from grade 4 and 2 from grade 5 are elected by their peers to represent the students in a fair and transparent election. The elected representatives will attend monthly meetings with various school administrators to discuss school issues and plan social events.

The election process begins at the start of the school year with each grade level electing two Student Council representatives. The second election for President and Vice President gives the opportunity for candidates from Grades 10 and 11 to give campaign speeches and campaign promises laying out their suitability for the role. The second election usually happens every October.

In addition, the CCC Student Council contributes to school activities including sporting, cultural, fundraising and extra-curricular events.
The Council also liaises with other organizations and fundraises for service as action and social events that benefit and support local and environmental issues of the students, school, local community and the environment.
The senior CCC Council's President is a leading officer who sets an example for students regarding courtesy, fairness, and the application of rules. The main function of the President is to run the Council meetings efficiently and fairly by supporting issues following school policies and procedures. The Vice President works closely with the President and must be familiar with all the President’s responsibilities, deputizing for them, alongside of following up with the sub-committees and upcoming events. Together, the President and Vice President strive to be role models for responsible leadership in every aspect of community life.
